Finding the Right Piano Teacher

We all remember this from school: When we liked our teacher, learning came much more easily. It’s exactly the same with playing the piano: After all, a piano teacher guides their students over several years. A strong relationship of trust between the piano teacher and the student is therefore an essential element of successful piano lessons.

This involves the famous “chemistry” that has to be right, but of course it’s also about the quality of instruction and ensuring that the teacher’s area of expertise aligns with the student’s goals. But how can you tell if a teacher and a student are a good fit? How does this special relationship of trust develop—one that helps the student reach their full potential?

The Degree Program: Formal Qualifications for Piano Teachers

Competition for spots at conservatories is extremely fierce: there are several hundred applicants for just a handful of spots per class. Anyone who chooses this path has invested several hours a day for years in their love of music and the piano just to pass the entrance exam. Conservatories therefore truly select the crème de la crème of young talent. A degree from such an institution is therefore not just any “certificate” or “diploma” that one can quickly earn on the side—it actually attests to a very high artistic level.

Taking lessons from a graduate of a conservatory or music college is therefore the best way to ensure that you or your child is taught by a competent instructor who knows their instrument inside and out and understands exactly what is important at each stage of learning.
For these reasons, our piano teachers are exclusively pianists who have studied at internationally renowned music colleges and conservatories and have earned at least a bachelor’s degree. In this way, we ensure a high standard of instruction for our students.

Matching: The teacher must be a good fit for the student

Despite all the qualifications, the human aspect must, of course, also be in harmony. On the one hand, this means that the piano teacher must be able to empathize well with the student in order to provide optimal guidance on the student’s journey to becoming a pianist; on the other hand, the teacher’s areas of focus must also align with the student’s goals.

At our piano school, piano teachers offer instruction with different areas of focus. This applies not only to their focus on different genres but also to the various goals of piano students.

Learning the Basics

Our piano teachers are particularly dedicated to teaching beginners the fundamentals of music and piano playing. They consistently succeed in turning a new hobby into a passion.

Preludes and Piano Competitions

Other piano teachers focus primarily on building on the existing piano skills of advanced students. They regularly and enthusiastically prepare their students for public recitals and help them succeed in piano competitions.

Entrance Exams at Conservatories of Music

Some of our teachers also work as instructors at music colleges and therefore have inside knowledge of the conservatory world. They provide targeted preparation for ambitious students seeking admission to music colleges.

Music Track in High School

Even students attending music high schools sometimes need targeted support along the way—or during the final stretch before their music-focused high school graduation exams. To that end, we have highly specialized and experienced teachers who work closely with students to help them succeed in school.

All of our piano teachers have both concert experience and many years of experience teaching their instrument. They understand both sides of the learning process and the realities of performing—and thus know exactly what it takes to best support students based on their individual abilities.

We carefully select the teacher who will instruct you or your child based on the student’s current skill level, age, and goals. During the trial lesson, the student and the piano teacher get to know each other personally and see if they’re a good fit—if, contrary to expectations, this isn’t the case, it’s of course possible to switch teachers.

Our goal: to provide the best possible support

The most important factor in selecting our teachers and matching teachers with students is ensuring the student’s optimal development. Of course, not every piano student wants to become a pianist or compete in competitions.

However, we know from experience that students only discover their true potential and the joy of playing an instrument when they have a teacher who is the perfect fit for them—and then they sometimes achieve much more than they ever thought possible!

That is why we believe that every student deserves a teacher like this—even if they are learning to play the piano simply for the joy of making music.

Are you convinced by our approach and would like to book a free trial lesson? Then come meet your future piano teacher during a free trial lesson. We look forward to seeing you!
