Piano Lessons for Seniors

“Every child is an artist. The challenge is to remain one as an adult.”
- Pablo Picasso

Piano lessons even in old age? Absolutely! Our oldest student is 82 years old and participates with great joy and dedication. We believe that no one should be afraid to start playing the piano, whether they’re 9 or 99. And—aside from the sheer fun of it—there are plenty of good reasons to keep playing well into old age.

A Hobby for Good Health

Playing the piano isn’t just fun—it also keeps you in shape! And not just because the dexterity required trains the flexibility of your hands and fingers. Rather, learning to play a musical instrument also promotes mental fitness. It has been proven to improve concentration, counteract the loss of nerve cells in the brain, and prevent dementia. The reason is that playing the piano engages the senses of hearing, sight, and touch all at once—a highly complex process that challenges the brain in a pleasant way, keeping it fresh and active.

Personalized Instruction for Individual Progress

We tailor our approach to each of our students individually and support them throughout their personal learning journey—regardless of age. Our piano teachers encourage you without any pressure to perform. You learn what you enjoy, at your own pace.

Together with your piano teacher, you'll choose pieces that suit you or that you've always wanted to play. Of course, ear training, music theory, and technique will also be covered.

We integrate the teaching of these musical fundamentals into our lessons, and it happens, so to speak, “en passant,” without losing sight of the pure joy of playing the piano.

Aren't people laughing at me over there?

We certainly don't! People who start playing the piano later in life usually do so simply for the joy of making music. We often find that retirees, in particular, devote a great deal of time and love to their new hobby.

We think that's great—and we look forward to working with older adults on musical projects, both big and small.

That’s why we’d like to strongly encourage all seniors to simply sign up for a free, no-obligation trial class—and just take the plunge to discover this wonderful new hobby!
