- Aristotle

Want to start playing the piano as a teenager? Why not? There are plenty of reasons to do so. Maybe you’d like to accompany yourself while singing, learn to play a movie soundtrack that moved you at the theater, play in a band or an ensemble… or simply learn to play the piano in the “classical” style. It’s never too late—and the sooner, the better. Playing the piano is a wonderful skill that you’ll enjoy for a lifetime!

Why Play the Piano?

We've already mentioned a few reasons. In addition to the desire to achieve musical goals—whether ambitious or not—learning to play the piano can also be a great way to relax, improve academic performance, prepare for a career, and much more.

Stress Relief and Improving Concentration

Do you often feel stressed by the daily grind of school? Do you perhaps have trouble concentrating? If you enjoy music, playing the piano can be the perfect way to unwind—because when you play the piano, you’re completely focused in that moment. This helps you return to other tasks with renewed energy and greater concentration. There’s even scientific evidence to support this.

Preparing for a Career in the Music Industry

For anyone who wants to pursue a career in the music industry later on, being able to play the piano is practically a must. At many colleges and universities, knowing how to play the piano is a prerequisite for almost every music-related major.

Improving Grades in Music Class

Even if you want to take the Abitur exam in music, you’ll benefit from piano lessons. Many topics covered theoretically in music class can be experienced hands-on through piano lessons. And, of course, piano lessons can also help improve your grades in music in general.

The most important reason, of course: being able to make music!

Above all, though, there’s one thing that should matter most: the fun and joy of music. Whether you just want to play at home for your own enjoyment or give little private concerts for friends and family, playing the piano is a great joy that—once you’ve mastered the basic techniques—you can enjoy for a lifetime. It’s definitely worth the effort, isn’t it?

What are the benefits of learning with a piano teacher?

I'm sure you've also seen the many apps that claim to teach you how to play the piano at breathtaking speed, or the countless YouTube tutorials. That might lead you to ask: Do I really need a piano teacher?

Overcoming Your Inner Slacker

From our perspective, there are several good reasons for this. First of all, taking regular piano lessons with a teacher also means a greater commitment. An app or YouTube doesn’t care whether you sit down at the piano or not. So if you want to overcome your inner slacker, you’re definitely better off with a piano teacher. A good piano teacher motivates you even when you’re feeling down and reminds you time and again of the reasons why you decided to learn to play the piano in the first place. It’s like having a fitness coach for the piano.

Don't imitate—learn to play on your own

In addition, a professional teacher teaches you more than just how to play a specific piece of music. You’ll train your ear and learn to understand musical relationships. Our holistic teaching approach is based on five pillars: technique, musical expression, ear training, basic practical knowledge of harmony, and, more generally, the musical education of our students. All of this will help you, in the long run, to learn and play new pieces on your own.

Errors are corrected immediately

Furthermore, proper technique has a decisive impact on learning success. A good piano teacher immediately spots small but significant mistakes in posture and playing technique and can step in to correct them. Once, however, an incorrect technique that prevents better playing has become ingrained, it is very difficult to break the habit.

How do the classes work?

We place great importance on tailoring our teaching to each student’s individual needs. This means that at the beginning, you’ll discuss your wishes and goals with your piano teacher—within the limits of what’s possible, our instructors will accommodate your requests and then provide expert guidance as you progress in your learning journey. Our lessons are generally based on classical piano playing.

Of course, pieces from other musical genres can still be played in class from time to time! Alternatively—or as a supplement—we also offer jazz piano lessons, which you can take after mastering the basics of piano playing if you’re particularly interested in jazz or piano improvisation in general.
