At Little KeyNotes, your child will learn to play the piano alongside other children ages 4 to 5. We sing, move to the music, and play our first melodies. Short games keep things interesting, and familiar routines provide a sense of security. We tailor the activities to your child’s developmental level. No prior experience is necessary.
What Your Child Will Learn
The children sing songs and also learn them on the piano. As they do so, they hear high and low notes, distinguish between loud and soft sounds, and move to the rhythm. Music from various genres adds variety.
Through songs and games, your child will learn note names, finger numbers, and the keyboard. Your child will practice a rounded hand position and specific finger movements. All five fingers are used as soon as your child is developmentally ready.
The children clap, move to the music, and play Orff instruments. They listen to rhythms, imitate them, and try out their own. These activities complement the piano playing and help everyone stay in sync.
Your child invents their own sequences of sounds and reworks familiar melodies. They experiment to find out which sounds they like. We revisit familiar activities and gradually introduce new ones. This allows your child to develop their own ideas and continue learning.
An elephant stomps deeply and loudly; a butterfly flutters high and softly. Images like these help children hear musical differences and try them out on the keys.
In short performance segments, the children show what they have learned—either on their own or together. In this way, they gradually get used to performing for others.
The teacher accompanies the children on the piano. As they do so, the children hear how their melodies blend with the accompaniment and practice staying in time with the rhythm.
The KeyNotes Concept
We sing many songs in English and use English note names and workbooks. We explain the exercises in German.
Your child sings English songs and learns the words by listening and playing. In the process, they practice the piano and make music with the other children.

We meet once a week for 45 minutes. Classes are suspended during Bavarian school breaks and on school holidays. If there is an opening, your child can join at any time.
To get started with Little KeyNotes, all you need is a simple keyboard—even an inexpensive one or one you've borrowed.
If you’d like to purchase an instrument, we recommend an electric piano with 88 weighted, touch-sensitive keys. This will ensure your child is well-equipped for the next stages of learning. As an alternative to buying, you can rent an electric piano through our partner, startmusic, starting at 29 € per month. Instrument rental is a separate offer.

Good to Know
Your child doesn't need to know how to play the piano or read. They also don't need to be able to play with all five fingers yet. We'll tailor the exercises to how confidently they can already move their hands and fingers.
Your child can try out the class for free, and you’re welcome to join. We’ll arrange the date with you personally. Afterward, you can take your time to decide whether you’d like to enroll your child. Children attend the regular class without their parents.
We’ll provide you with appropriate exercises from the lesson. KeyNotes practice videos and Parent Practice Sheets—which include specific exercises and tips—will help you support your child at home. To start with, a simple keyboard or one you’ve borrowed will suffice. If you’d like to buy an instrument, you’ll find our recommendations under “Costs and Lessons.”

We use the English note names A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. The children memorize them using mnemonic devices such as “C for Cat.” We can add the German names later: The English B corresponds to the German H. We explain the exercises in German.
Depending on your child's age and developmental stage, they can continue learning with Storytellers. You can register them for a spot with no obligation. You'll find all the courses in our program overview.
